Finished Lady Audley's Secret

I really enjoyed this book once i got into it. I loved that she kept holding things back right until the very end, and not just what Lady Audly's secret is, but also the last twist right at the very end :)

It's taken a while to actually post that i finished the book because i couldn't get to the computer :(

Well done. You might try some more Victorian sensation fiction. The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins is pretty terrific, and has, I think, one of the best women characters ever created by a man.

Gladstone is said to have been so caught up by the story that he cancelled an evening at the theatre in order to continue reading.

It takes in a number of themes from Victorian popular fiction.

You might want to make some notes on key themes, styles, etc. (without giving away the ending, of course).

Hi, glad to hear you enjoyed Lady A. I'm writing an adaptation of it for TV at the moment, would love to hear more about your thoughts on it. Also, for your reading on Victorian society I'd recommend The Dark Angel by Fraser Harrison, and Matthew Sweet's Inventing the Victorians. Have you read The French Lieutenant's Woman btw?

regards, Jonathan
